During the last major rally in gold prices, gold stocks made some great gains and investors such as yours truly were happy to take good profits on the gold mining companies we had bought over the summer doldrums. However we should have seen a much better performance.

As we are now of the opinion that the US dollar may spend some time going sideways, or perhaps even making some gains, we also now think that precious metals are going to take a significant drop.

We know we may sound a bit like a broken record, but gold is still too far above its 200 day moving average! This gap must be closed, and we think that closure will happen within the next couple of months. That means a $100 haircut for gold, which will hit gold stocks hard and also drag the silver price south (read more…)

The Bank of England confirmed the introduction of a “special liquidity scheme” whereby Treasury Bills will be swapped for high quality AAA rated mortgage backed securities. The Labour party that once represented socialism in Britain, is now coming to the rescue of poorly managed private banking enterprises. “Given typical market valuation of 10 to 20 times earnings for mining shares”, should Silverado succeed in its gold exploration, and subsequent production (”…which appears to be possible given their current placer operations, exploration work and reserves indicated in the Bundtzen Report…”), then “the shares would have the potential to move to the region of 40 cents to 80 cents ($0.40 - $0.80) - or a multiple of eight to sixteen times the current price (read more…)

Kinross Gold Corporation, has made terrific progress a since it was established in 1993 and is now the third largest primary gold producer in North America by reserves. All its nine mines are in relatively politically stable countries such as the United States, Brazil, Chile and Russia. Canadian based Kinross employs more than 5,000 people worldwide.
Kinross has an excellent pipeline of projects where three top class development projects will add 60% growth over the next two years against a backcloth of declining costs.
