Over recent years the gold producing stocks have lost their position as a leveraged vehicle by which to play the gold bull market. To get the direction of a commodity correct only to select the wrong form of investment is tragic to say the least. As we wrestle with the question of allocation of capital we have briefly touched on other possibilities such as the use of ‘betting’ in the UK where the gains are tax free. Well, we have found a report that we think we be of interest to you regarding this tricky situation:
It is entitled “Bullion and Mining Stocks – Two Different Investments” by Nick Barisheff of Bullion Management Group Incorporated.
For those who are interested in the ETFs here is a snippet from the report;
The report covers various aspects of investment and you can download it for free by going to Nicks web site or click here.
We hope that it gives you food for thought and that you get something from it.
Have a good one.

There’s no substitute for personally storing your own physical metal. I think these ETF’s are like the real-estate mortgage securities “bundles” traded by AIG and the banks which contributed to the world-wide banking collapse…the ETF’s are headed in that direction…who can trust anything to do with them? My 2 cents.

Snakeman,
Thanks for your 2 cents worth we are of a similar view. However, they could be used for the odd options trade, as they do mirror golds movements whereas the stocks can take on a life of their very own and not reflect the metals movement albeit for a short period of time.

Sheet, I wish I had some bucks for options trading. Sounds fun. I’m certianly a risk=taker. Given that, I enjoy hefting my boxes of silver wondering how many kilos are in this box, etc…! Carry on gentleman…you certianly have done your job educating this bloke! If this bull run EVER takes off, maybe someday I’ll be trading options. Yeah, right. Friggin’ bank manipulators…they suck eggs…

Snakeman, keep your chin up, there are one or two options that we are working on which will be posted here, not too expensive, but we need to get it right! However it will be pretty hard to beat boxes of silver going forward.
