Gold and the DOW metric!

As we can see from the above chart gold has outperformed the Dow Jones Industrial Average Index in dramatic fashion since 2001. Gold has gained 250% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average is back to square one with a 0% gain.

Yamana Gold Incorporated: Declares July Dividend!

Agnico-Eagle Mines Limited: A question of timing!

There is no doubt about it Agnico-Eagle Mines Limited (AEM) is a class act and deserves a place in everyone’s portfolio, however timing an entry point is also crucial.

As we can see on the above chart of Agnico’s progress the technical indicators, RSI, MACD and the STO are in the sell zone which suggests that AEM could well take a breather shortly. AEM has returned to challenge its all time high rather quicker than most other stocks which is testament to its quality (more…)

Gold: A Terrific Run!

As we can see from the above chart gold has put in a terrific run to gain $100/oz over the last four weeks. The stage is set for a pop at the $1000/oz level if not now then by the fall.

The financial sector is in turmoil with recent problems highlighted by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac coming shortly after the demise of Northern Rock and Bear Stearns. The tensions in the Middle East continue to simmer, as Iraq and the United States remain engaged in a war of words. The printing presses continue to work overtime pumping liquidity into the markets. Yamana Gold Incorporated: Bought Again!

Today we acquired more of the stock of Yamana Gold Incorporated for an average price of $15.47 as gold gained $7.50 and silver gained $0.25. Randgold Resources Limited: Up 8.59% in one day!

We acquired the stock of gold producer Randgold Resources Limited on the 16th June 2008 for an average price of $37.65 per share, it closed on Friday at $51.09, on the NASDAQ for a gain of 35.69% in less then a month.

Today we thought that we would take a look at Randgold as it appears on the London Stock Exchange (LSE), as we tend to concentrate our attention on the action on the New York and Toronto Stock Exchanges (more…)

Silver, Gold, HUI and the US Dollar!

As we pass the half way stage for 2008 we can see from the above chart that 1st place goes to Silver, 2nd Gold, 3rd HUI and 4th US Dollar.

Interesting to note that silver is at the moment outperforming gold and hanging on to pole position with the stocks in third place and the dollar stumbling around in the basement. Its been our opinion for a long time that silver will outperform gold and return the biggest profits by the time this bull market draws to a close (more…)

Yamana Gold Incorporated: BUY!

Today we acquired a few more shares in Yamana Gold Incorporated for an average price of $14.95 as gold added another $18.20 on top of yesterday’s gain of $13.40 to close at $964.60.

Yamana Gold’s stock hit $17.00 recently but then suffered at the hands of the profit takers which drove the stock down. On top of that yesterdays preliminary results were greeted with a bit of a yawn (more…)

Gold: Are juniors the way to go?

It has long been said that the junior gold exploration companies would put in the most explosive performances when the gold price moved north, however in the recent run up in gold from $650 to $1020 many juniors didn’t not rise with gold and some stocks even went down over that period, the question is; why?

If an investor wants to be sure to benefit from increases in gold prices, then one must have exposure to gold. Many of these juniors do not have any ounces of gold in the ground as proven reserves, therefore why should they rise with gold prices (more…)

Eurozone raises interest rates!

The euro is now travelling in an opposite direction to the US Dollar following the European Central Bank’s decision to raise interest rates to a seven-year high in order to fend off inflation.

The quarter-point rise in the main interest rate to 4.25 per cent was enthusiastically greeted by the Peer Steinbrück, the German finance minister, who had this to say:

“I am convinced that there is a high probability that we can overcome the financial turmoil during the next year or year-and-a-half. But I think worldwide inflation will affect us for a longer time (more…)

Kinross Gold Corporation has just announced its subscription for 5,000,000 units of stock of the explorer Chapleau Resources Limited. As investors in this company it is good to see them actively pursue exploration companies who offer the future potential of increased reserves. Chapleau are engaged on drilling programmes in both Brazil and Peru.
