Corruption across EU 'breathtaking' - EU Commission

The extent of corruption in Europe is "breathtaking" and it costs the EU economy at least 120bn euros (£99bn) annually, the European Commission says.

EU Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmstroem has presented a full report on the problem.

She said the true cost of corruption was "probably much higher" than 120bn.

Three-quarters of Europeans surveyed for the Commission study said that corruption was widespread, and more than half said the level had increased.

"The extent of the problem in Europe is breathtaking, although Sweden is among the countries with the least problems," Ms Malmstroem wrote in Sweden's Goeteborgs-Posten daily.

The cost to the EU economy is equivalent to the bloc's annual budget.

For the report the Commission studied corruption in all 28 EU member states. The Commission says it is the first time it has done such a survey.

You have to laugh , there is an old saying that people in glass houses should not throw stones . The Eu needs to look at itself to see where the heart of corruption lies.

After I've read this Report requested by the most Corrupt institution of all in Europe: the European Commission I clearly see that even the research institute in charge with this action it was totally corrupt , because he was not at all independent and impartial ! Far from that.
About one country I know for sure that the report was and it is fake.
The European C omission just wanted to know how profitable could and would be to institutionalse / "Bruxelles nationalized " the actual "national and natural corruption" in his own behalf and to render this official corruption under the used name in USA, so called : LOBBY !
This factual interest and developments are there only with one purpose : to help their protege Big Corporation against the National interests of every and each Country.
To harmonize this bribery at official level in the benefit to their circle of parasite clients( new giant bureaucracy as lobby known , only on behalf and strictly benefit of Big Banks, Corporation .and Financial industry and never for the benefit of Nations and Countries, this is the aim and interest of this monstrosity paid research.
As long they (EC) continue this kind of ultra- fascist terrorisme in EU, it is nothing to be done !
The EU/EC and ECB have grossly and not ashamed manipulated also the price of gold , therefore what we expect from them !
Only our misery and the happiness of "fat -Cats " of the official Mafia of Bruxelles.

Yes indeed we do have to laugh - the EU's auditors have been unable to sign off the accounts for 19 years due to funds that cant be accounted for, yet we still carry on as though it is alright. The up-coming EU elections will see the rise of the euro skeptic parties across Europe so we can only hope that they will make enough noise to bring this experiment to an end.
